The Artist
Nimas Dwi Puspaningrat
Batik · Painting · Dance Artist
Nimas Dwi Puspaningrat is a Javanese artist whose practice moves between hand-drawn batik, painting, and traditional and contemporary dance.
Through batik and painting, she explores the intimate language of the feminine body: womanhood, the womb, the foetus, the placenta, birth, and the vagina, translated into poetic forms rooted in Javanese tradition with a contemporary sensibility.
Each batik is entirely hand-drawn and created as a singular work for one collector only. No design is reproduced. Every line carries the presence of its making, making each piece an unrepeatable expression of time, body, and memory.
Her paintings on canvas extend this visual language into a freer contemporary expression, while her experience as a dancer brings an understanding of movement, rhythm, gesture, and the human body into her artistic practice.
Nimas has performed traditional and contemporary dance at major cultural festivals in Indonesia and internationally.
